Overview of the Casino du Lac-Leamy

Many Canadian state governments have used casinos to increase their revenues available for services and other economic activities, and just such an example is the Casino du Lac-Leamy.

Based in Gatineau in the province of Quebec, the Casino du Lac-Leamy is a casino run by the Canadian government as a fundraising initiative in order to boost the local economy and create enough funds for necessary services.

History and Construction of the Casino

The casino was opened along with several other casino gaming venues in 1996, as a part of a plan by the government to raise funds. Due to the fact that certain other plans to build casinos in the area were halted, the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau serves a number of its surrounding regions, including Eastern Ontario and the province of Ottawa.

The casino is currently owned and operated by the Societe des Casinos du Quebec, a subsidiary of the government-owned Loto-Quebec gaming company. Formerly known as the Casino de Hull, a name based on the nearby Hull sector, the Casino du Lac-Leamy remains a successful venture, employing close to 2,000 Canadians and bringing in over $30 million each year in profits alone.

The Casino and Nearby Gatineau Attractions

The construction of the Casino du Lac-Leamy, then the Casino de Hull, was completed in 1996 at the site of the Lac de la Carierre, a former cement quarry and rocky, picturesque outcrop. The lake itself houses a large fountain that can be seen from the casino during the warmer months, and the Lac Leamy lake after which the casino is named is situated just to the east of the establishment.

Some of the nearby attractions in the Gatineau region include political landmarks, museums, outdoor activities and cultural venues.

The Hilton Hotel at Casino du Lac-Leamy

As well as the Casino du Lac-Leamy itself, a Hilton hotel is also attached to the casino’s main building, creating a resort for both casino gaming and accommodation. The hotel itself houses almost 350 rooms and suites, and another notable feature of the building is its 1,100 seat Theatre du Casino, which has become a popular local venue for music shows and other performances.

Visitors to the Casino du Lac-Leamy and the Hilton hotel will also be able to take advantage of a variety of amenities. Guests who are interested in dining can choose from 4 licensed bars and 5 different restaurants, including the Le Baccara Gourmet Restaurant, the Arome Seafood and Grill, the Banco Bistro, Le Cafe, and the TVG.

Casino Gaming at Casino du Lac-Leamy

The Casino du Lac-Leamy itself is large by casino standards, housing over 1,800 slot machines on its floors. As well as slots, the casino also offers 65 tables for casino table games, ranging from roulette and craps to blackjack, baccarat and poker.

The casino is open 24 hours a day, and players will also be able to play sic bo, pai gow, Caribbean Stud, High Card Flush and War at the Casino du Lac-Leamy.
